Treat yourself to wonderful west wales

West Wales has it all. Breathtaking countryside, fantastic beaches, staggering coastline, beautiful little towns, masses of history and a generous welcome to those who love the freedom of a get-away-from-it-all family holiday. And at one of Barkers Leisure's three family-friendly holiday parks, you couldn't have better bases to explore this very special area.

The countryside

This part of Wales is truly beautiful. Pleasant undulating countryside is the perfect rural setting for just enjoying the tranquillity or as an invitation to take in some marvellous walks. The Preselis hills are worth rambling over, too. And a must-see wonder are the famous falls at Cenarth. It's a natural world where the different seasons bring their own delights, particularly the gorgeous wild flowers in the spring. Bird lovers won't be disappointed either. Look out for the red kites. Of course there are also some excellent man-made contributions to the countryside which might help your holiday go along with a swing. Check out some of the 9 & 18-hole golf courses. And the landscape wouldn't be the same without the famous Welsh castles, reminders of a fascinating and turbulent past.

Rambler Cardigan Bay

The town

Whichever holiday park you are based at you'll be close to a host of historic towns, delightful small ports and enchanting fishing villages. There's the Georgian charm of Aberearon, the chic boutiques in Cardigan, the small village of Aberporth nestling on Cardigan Bay, the market town of Newcastle Emlyn and New Quay, believed to be the inspiration for Dylan Thomas's 'Under Milk Wood'. Then there are the holiday resorts of Tenby, Saundersfoot, St. David's and Fishguard, as well as the holiday and university town of Aberystwyth. All are waiting to be discovered - or maybe you'll unearth a gem of your own.

St David's Cathedral St David's Cathedral

The beaches

One of the main attractions for a family is the amazing choice of lovely sandy beaches. Above all, they are safe environments for children to play on and bathe in. There are excellent beaches along the coast of which Penbryn, Tresaith, Llangranog, Mwnt and New Quay are all worth a visit. So, when planning your holiday don't forget your bucket and spade!

Newquay Harbour Newquay Harbour

The coastline

Cardigan Heritage Coast and Pembrokeshire offer so much from attractive cliff-top walks to boat trips to discover the local marine ecology. The sea supports a grey seal population, porpoises and the only resident family of bottle-nose dolphins in Wales or England. Naturally, sailing is very popular as is fishing - deep sea, rock and river.

The food and drink

Food and drink plays a vital part in any holiday. Some of our holiday parks provide on site food facilities with our traditional Sunday lunches being a particular favourite. However, half the fun of a good holiday is seeking out the interesting pubs, the nice restaurants and the tasty tearooms. In our part of Wales you will be spoiled for choice. Make sure you try some of the local delicacies of which we are very proud.
